The Drive and the Hourly Math on a Boulder Move
Samurai Movers is a licensed, insured Boulder moving company based in Broomfield. We handle residential moves, office relocations, packing, and labor-only jobs across Boulder, from University Hill and downtown to North Boulder, Gunbarrel, and the Table Mesa area in the south.
Local moves are usually priced hourly, and the drive to Boulder is simple. It is one highway, US-36, from our office to the city. The catch is that US-36 is congested in both directions at rush hour, with commuters heading into Boulder and toward Denver. Where the schedule allows, we will suggest a start time that keeps the loaded truck out of the worst of it.

Boulder Neighborhoods Each Move a Little Differently
Boulder’s housing runs from 19th-century homes near downtown to 1960s ranches and newer townhomes in the north and east. The rules change too. Parking zones, historic streets, and the lease calendar all shape the plan.
University Hill and Goss-Grove
These are Boulder’s student-rental neighborhoods, with older houses split into units and apartment buildings close to campus. Both sit inside the city’s Neighborhood Permit Parking zones. On the Hill, cars without a permit are limited to two hours on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In Goss-Grove, street parking without a permit is now paid by the hour. Either way, plan truck placement in advance. The Hill is also inside the city’s bear-protection zone, so put trash and packing debris in bear-resistant containers.
Mapleton Hill and Whittier
Some of Boulder’s oldest homes sit on the narrow, tree-lined streets just north of downtown. Expect tight front walks, steep porch steps, and interior stairways built long before king beds and sectionals. Parked cars on both sides can push the truck farther from the door. West of Broadway, the city requires trash to be secured from bears, so plan how you’ll remove packing debris and discarded items from the property.
South Boulder and Table Mesa
Mostly 1960s and 1970s ranches, bi-levels, and split-levels, with attached garages and reasonable truck access. Pressure points include half-flight stair runs, basement rec rooms, and garages full of bikes, skis, and camping gear that need their own packing plan.
North Boulder and Gunbarrel
North Boulder mixes older homes with newer townhome and mixed-use developments. Gunbarrel, out the Diagonal Highway to the northeast, has apartments, townhomes, and single-family homes. Access is usually easy, but newer complexes often have HOA move-in rules worth checking early.
Pearl Street, Downtown, and Campus-Area Buildings
Downtown Boulder and the blocks around the University of Colorado hold most of the city’s larger apartment and condo buildings. These moves usually mean a reserved elevator, a move window set by property management, a certificate of insurance on file, and very little legal curb space. Near Pearl Street, the truck may need to load from an alley or a marked zone rather than out front.
We start the building paperwork as soon as your date is set, because elevator slots near campus go early in late summer.
